SAMHSA Will Provide $39.6 Million To Support Juvenile and Adult Reentry and Recovery Services

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is currently accepting applications for the Offender Reentry Program. The purpose of the program is to expand or enhance substance abuse treatment and related recovery and reentry services to sentenced juvenile and adult offenders returning to the community from incarceration for criminal/juvenile offenses. Programs should help those who have been incarcerated make a stable transition back to the community, provide treatment for drug and alcohol abusers, and reduce future offending. Grants will be awarded through SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, for fiscal year 2010. The deadline for submitting applications is January 19.

Seventh Annual Art of Recovery

Art of Recovery

The Department of Public Safety Office of Justice Programs and the Minnesota State Arts Board are again partnering to present the annual Art of Recovery.

The Office of Justice Programs and the Minnesota State Arts Board invite entries for an art exhibition to heighten public awareness about crime victims and their rights and to commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 18-24, 2010. 

The show will feature artwork by Minnesotan’s who have been victims of a crime and expressed their experience or healing through art. The Art of Recovery exhibition will open Friday, April 16, 2010 and remain on display in the Arts Board office gallery through June 2010. The visual arts exhibitions will be part of the Saint Paul Art Crawl and selected literary artists will be invited to participate in a reading of their work.

Recovery Act Justice Assistance Grant State Awards

The Office of Justice Programs is pleased to announce the selection of five state agency projects to receive Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.  $5,584,187 in ARRA funds will support approximately 20 new or retained positions and related program costs for a two year period.  OJP received 19 state proposals requesting a total of over $19 million.  Proposals were peer reviewed by 10 volunteers in two review groups.

Each applicant agency will receive written notification next week. Those awarded funds will be contacted by their grant manager. Because of the high volume of proposals, OJP staff will be unable to provide individual feedback to applicants.

Recovery Act Justice Assistance Grant Funding Announcement Posted

The Office of Justice Programs is pleased to announce the selection of 40 local projects around the state to receive Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA funds. $10,705,379 in ARRA funds will support over 150 new or retained positions and related program costs for a two year period.  Funded projects best met the goals of both the Recovery Act and the JAG program.
